At the RailLive! 2024 congress in Zaragoza on 26 November, Holger Dittus presented scientific results in the Energy and Climate Adaptation session, which were developed and elaborated in the FCH2RAIL project in the field of energy management and air conditioning of hydrogen-powered rail vehicles.
The presentation covered aspects of the design and optimum operation of hybrid drive systems consisting of fuel cells and batteries on the one hand and the increase in energy efficiency through the innovative HyPAC air conditioning system on the other. The HyPAC system utilises the pressure energy stored in the compressed hydrogen to generate heat and cold to support the HVAC systems instead of dissipating this energy unused.
